Care Instructions
For optimal care of native trees in Central Texas, follow these guidelines:
Watering: During the establishment phase (1-2 years), water deeply weekly using soaker hoses. For mature trees, water every 2-4 weeks, allowing soil to dry between watering. In winter, water every 4-6 weeks, particularly for young trees and evergreens.
Soil and Mulching: Apply 2-4 inches of organic mulch around the base, ensuring well-draining soil. Conduct soil tests for nutrient adjustments.
Weather Precautions: In summer heat, shade young trees and increase watering during dry spells. Protect trees from winter frost by covering them and watering before freezing. Stake young trees for wind support, and promptly prune damaged branches after storms.
Pruning: Regularly prune during the dormant season for shaping and removing dead branches. Emergency pruning is recommended after severe weather events.
Adhering to these concise guidelines will promote the health and resilience of your native trees in Central Texas. Adjustments based on specific conditions are advised for optimal care.
